As the title already says, this event is about you writing a Haiku. A Haiku is an originally japanese rhyme-form, which consists of 17 "syllables"/characters, which are often arranged in a 5-7-5 syllable-pattern. Mostly these rhymes were used to describe nature or non-human-influenced circumstances and give an impression on the viewer's sight, feelings and emotions.
During the last century this form of rhymes slowly leaked to the western world, where it developed further into several subforms, which still usually keep to the 5-7-5-pattern, either by making ryhmes of 5-7-5 syllable-patterns or 5-7-5 words-patterns. Rules:

As for this event, we consider a Haiku as a poem with a loosely 5-7-5-pattern of either words or syllables (and we don't mind if it's a syllable more or less as long as the overall-measure still fits)
Everybody is allowed to submit up to three Haikus only. They don't have to be submitted all at once, so take your time to think and develop
Submitted Haiku's will be moved to a seperate post/thread at a given time, so they can be reviewed without having to scroll and check loads of pages (submited changes, before the evaluation-period, will be done by request of the creator, of course)
The six best Haiku will recieve a price each (see below on the rewards)
Each submiter may only win one prize, though we might add in special prizes for very good non-elected submits, so give your best http://www.sowi-forum.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif
Submission period ends on November 4th and will be followed by an election/vote period (rules/procedure on voting will be announced at the same time)
Preferably and if possible, your submits should somehow contain a reference to Lineage2 or Godz (though it's no requirement)

Rewards:

1st place: 1 Weapon with SA or a complete armor set up to S grade
2nd place: 1 Weapon without SA or 1 armor set-part up to S grade
3rd place: 1 SA for a weapon up to S grade
4th place: 1 Weapon with SA or a complete armor set up to A grade
5th place: 1 Weapon without SA or 1 armor set-part up to A grade
6th place: 1 SA for a weapon up to A grade.
Various minor prizes, like LifeStones, Enchant-scrolls and maybe Seeds of Evil will be awarded to good submits and the top 6 as well

There seems to be some confusion as to what a haiku is. For the purpose of this contest we're going to include pretty much anything with 3 lines having 5-7-5 syllables.

That's 5 syllables the first line, 7 syllables the second line and 5 syllables the third line. Please note that these are SYLLABLES, not WORDS.

Here is an example of an invalid entry:

Godz is the best server (5 words, 6 syllables)
Only the coolest players play on here (7 words, 10 syllables)
Especially that stud GM Heracles (5 words, 11 syllables)

Here is an example of a valid entry:

Among Godz we stand (4 words, 5 syllables)
Heroes and Villains battle (4 words, 7 syllables)
We love Heracles (3 words, 5 syllables)

Although both are fantastic, and include properly directed flattery, only the second would qualify as a rough haiku.

There are some words that kind of blur the lines in terms of syllables, especially taking into consideration different accents (case in point: y'all). We'll probably let these entries slide a little, but it would be in your best interest to use words that avoid the issue altogether.

Feel free to edit your posted entries to correct their format.

By definition, yes, that statement is true. But It's apparent that a majority of entrants submitted their poems based upon the stipulations of the rules laid out when the event was initiated... Now, if people only read the original postings and miss what Heracles said, they'll continue to post 5-7-5 word format. The suggestion was for the rules on the first page to be updated to help posters who want to participate to do so accurately.

As a clarification:

In japanese, a character/sign/syllable is similar to a full word, sometimes even a group of words. Hence it's quite common, in the western world, that a Haiku can be composed of 5-7-5 words instead of syllables, though it's not exactly a traditional Haiku, but still follows the same conception.

Because of the differences of the two ways of writing and since it's quite common, I decided to make it more easy by allowing 5-7-5 words, too.

So heads up and go on, there were some quite nice submissions already :)
